Michael Eugene Archer — known to the world as D’Angelo, one of the founding figures of the neo-soul movement — has passed away at the age of 51.
His family confirmed that the cause was pancreatic cancer.

D’Angelo was both the composer and vocalist of “Unshaken”, the hauntingly beautiful theme from Red Dead Redemption 2. His voice, deep and trembling with faith and defiance, gave the dying light of that western frontier its soul.

His second studio album, Voodoo, released in 2000, earned him a Grammy and secured his place in modern music history. His family shared that he had been a devoted fan of the original Red Dead Redemption, even taking part in early playtesting.

Through his music, he breathed warmth and melancholy into a vast, lonely world — shaping the memories of millions of players.

Now that voice has fallen silent.
But somewhere, across the fading plains of the West, “Unshaken” still lingers — a hymn for the steadfast, and a farewell to the man who sang it.
